Caminito del Rey outdoor adventure

Seville Trip Overview

El Caminito del Rey is located within a beautiful Natural Area, which makes it impressively beautiful and attractive, but it is not a simple walk in the bush. The walkways, the 105 meter high suspension bridge and the steep walls will create an inevitable feeling of vertigo in many visitors. This height, together with the narrowness of some areas, make it dangerous. And it is that the Caminito del Rey is a restored infrastructure to enjoy an active tourism activity, an activity that takes place in a natural environment. Therefore, the risk factor and / or a certain degree of physical effort or dexterity is inherent to it, aspects that are assumed by its visitors when they decide to do it. Visitors will not be risking their lives (nothing is further from reality), but we must be aware that it will impact those most impressionable users. That is one of the great attractions of Caminito del Rey.

Itinerary

Elevated almost 100 meters high above the gorge of the Guadalhorce river, Caminito de Rey was originally a small service trail that crossed the Gaitanes Gorge. It connected the small water dam of the Gaitanejo with the Chorro hydroelectric waterfall. Built at the beginning of the 20th century with a clearly functional mission, it became part of the daily life of the inhabitants of El Chorro. Inaugurated in 1921 by King Alfonso XIII after the construction of the Chorro dam, it was used sometimes on foot, others in cavalry, and sometimes by bicycle for children who attended school, women and men. 7.7 km, 4.8 are from accesses and 2.9 from walkways. The footbridges (the best known part), the distance between the entrance to the exit is 2.9 km divided between 1.5 km of footbridges themselves and 1.4 km of forest path or track. This humble Caminito del Rey traverses in an impossible way the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes natural area, an impressive canyon opened by the Guadalhorce river, has a total length of three kilometers, reaches heights up to 300 meters and widths less than 10.
