Our first stop is village of Zumaia located just on the edge of UNESCO geopark. It’s a perfect place to admire incredible, vertical rock strata cutting into the ocean. We are talking about flysch and karst. We will discover the dark sand beach Hurdantza (one of the Game of Thrones location) and iconic San Telmo chapel overlooking the cliffs. The experience wouldn’t be complete without trekking to the lookout located on the very tip of the cliff – take a deep breath and follow the guide!

Stop At: Getaria Fishing Port, Getaria Spain
Getaria is one of the most important fishing ports in the region! We will start in the port visiting local canned fish producer that is using exclusively artisanal methods. You will discover the secrets of anchovy and tuna preservation and try some of the store specialities.

From the port we will drive up the hill to visit a Txakoli winery. We chose a small, sustainable one to embrace the traditional methods of wine making. You will dive in the world of ‘txakoli’ making process, Hondarribi Zuri and Beltza grapes and learn how to serve and pair it. Enough talking – time to try this bubbly, crisp drink!

No visit to Getaria is complete without trying their number ONE speciality – world famed charcoal grilled fish accompanied by a local wine! The village is home to some best fish restaurants in the region and part of the attraction is watching how they are being grilled on massive outdoor BBQs. The wine we’re talking about is called ‘Txakoli’ and it’s produced in the hills overlooking the town. You can’t go more local and authentic than that. It is a 100% zero kilometer meal.

From Zarautz we will continue to Orio from where we will drive up Mount Igueldo. During this scenic ride we will pass green fields, farmhouses and admire incredible views of the ocean.
