Cycling – Acinipo & Zahara – 46km – Challenging Level

Ronda Trip Overview

This road cycling route heads via the Roman ruins at Acinipo to the charming white village of Zahara de la Sierra.

From Ronda, we take a long, steady climb on quiet roads to Acinipo, built high on an escarpment more than 2,000 years ago. Now only the large Roman theatre survives but there are amazing views to the hillsides all around, where grapes, olives, wheat and other crops have been cultivated since Roman times.

From Acinipo we enjoy a long sweeping descent via the village of Montecorto down to Zahara lake. The 11km section of undulating road along the edge of Zahara’s stunning blue lake is a highlight of this trip. From the lakeside we can see up to the village of Zahara de la Sierra, perched on the side of a rocky outcrop above the lake. The remains of an Arab fort still dominate the skyline above the village. A final climb takes us up in to Zahara village for optional refreshments before we return to Ronda in our minibus.
