12-Day Small-Group Walking Tour over Fuerteventura Island

Puerto del Rosario Trip Overview

With a select group of up to 10 people, we walk from north to south in a period of 12 days.
From the North of Corralejo to the south Punta de Jandia.
The hike of about 160 kilometers is not extremely difficult but does require some fitness.
Fuerteventura, like all Canary Islands, is of volcanic origin, but there are significantly fewer volcanoes here than on, for example, Lanzarote.
The accommodations on Fuerteventura are carefully selected and attractive. For example, we spend the night in a finca of more than 100 years old, far away from mass tourism.
The price of the 12-day trip is based on a stay in a double room, usually with a private bathroom. For those who would like to have their own room, this can be arranged at an additional cost.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at the accommodation

Pass By: Corralejo, Corralejo, La Oliva, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands
You can fly (depending on your preference and the flight price) to Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. If you fly to Lanzarote, you travel by bus from the airport to Playa Blanca in the far south. From here you take the ferry to Corralejo at the northern tip of Fuerteventura. You will be met at the port to be transported to the accommodation. If you fly directly to Fuerteventura, we will be ready at the airport to take you to the accommodation in Corralejo, where we will stay for two days.

We are introduced to the group while enjoying a drink. You get your goody bag here and in the evening you can enjoy the cozy atmosphere of Corralejo, with plenty of restaurants and cozy shops. It is recommended to stock up on some food and drink for tomorrow.

From the boulevard or one of the many terraces, you have a beautiful view of the adjacent island of Los Lobos, where the first stage of our walk will start tomorrow.

Our destination today is La Oliva, a place with history. From 1708 to 1859 it was the seat of the army command, of which the “Casa de los Coroneles” is still a historical witness. The imposing building was restored a few years ago and can be visited. The chalk-white parish church with a bell tower of black lava stone is also worth a visit. In earlier times this tower served as a watchtower to warn the inhabitants of pirate attacks. From 1834 to 1860, La Oliva was the capital of Fuerteventura.

Day 4: Hikingtrip to Tefia

Even today there are still many legends, but the mountain is protected and can only be visited on a limited basis. We take a break in a local bar and continue our way south. One kilometer south of Tindaya we pass the “Montaña Quemada” (literally: the burnt mountain), also a volcano woven with legends. The end of today’s stage is the village of Tefia, located on an ocher-colored plain.
Duration: 8 hours

Meals included:
• Breakfast
Accommodation included: Overnight stay in a typical rural

Day 5: Hikingtrip to Betancuria

Stop At: Betancuria, Betancuria, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands
Today the climbing starts. Along the way we can go for a snack or provisions in one of the picturesque villages we encounter. After Valle de Santa Inés we really go up steeply. At the top we arrive at a viewpoint with two huge statues, the “Estatuas de Guise y Ayose”. The 4.5 meter high bronze statues depict the two Guanche kings Guise and Ayose, rulers of Fuerteventura’s distant past. The island, then called Herbania, was divided into two kingdoms, Maxorata in the north and Jandia in the south. From here we have an impressive view over the northeast of the island, where we came from. In clear weather even Los Lobos and Lanzarote can be seen on the horizon.
Duration: 8 hours

Meals included:
• Breakfast
Accommodation included: Overnight in a old farm

Day 6: Hikingtrip to Pajara

Stop At: Pajara, Pajara, Jandia Peninsula, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands
Today a tough day with hefty climbs, but with magnificent views. We leave Betancuria and immediately hike to the highest point of the day. We pass through valleys where silence reigns. The only sound you hear is the birds of prey flying over the valleys. A piece of nature that you will never forget about this island. The climbs make this a tough trip. We pause at an atmospheric location that emerges from nowhere, to watch the next tough climb. Make sure to replenish your water supply here.
Duration: 8 hours

Meals included:
• Breakfast
Accommodation included: Overnight stay in a old house

Day 7: Hikingtrip to la Pared

Stop At: La Pared, La Pared, Pajara, Jandia Peninsula, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands
Today will be another very tough day, probably the toughest stage. We leave from Pájara and soon see the mountains looming before us. This is the most beautiful area in Fuerteventura. You feel at one with nature here. The silence sometimes hurts your ears, but with one word: beautiful! Breathtaking views to both coasts of the island await you. In clear weather you can even see the top of the Teíde on the neighboring island of Tenerife on the western horizon!
Duration: 8 hours

Meals included:
• Breakfast

Day 8: La Pared Costa Calma

Stop At: La Pared, La Pared, Pajara, Jandia Peninsula, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands
Today we leave early for Costa Calma. Immediately south of La Pared, the landscape changes remarkably. Leaving the mountains behind, we now walk through a kind of sloping desert landscape. Compared to the past few days a fairly flat trip.

At the narrowest part of the island we cross to the east coast towards Costa Calma. A popular spot with surfers because of the favorable wind that blows here all year round. Exactly why this is one of the most famous surfing beaches in Europe. After today’s short walk it is time for rest and relaxation.
Duration: 6 hours

No meals included on this day.
Accommodation included: Costa Calma Luxery Hotel

Stop At: Morro del Jable, Morro del Jable, Pajara, Jandia Peninsula, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands
The last two days of the walking route we mostly walk south along the beach. Today we walk to Morro Jable, where we will spend the next two nights.

Morro Jable still has the atmosphere of a former fishing village, but it has since merged with the very touristic Jandia next door. Plenty of shopping can be done here. You stumble across the souvenir shops and terraces. However, the promenade in old Morro Jable is very attractive and a table right on the water can always be found with some luck and patience. We stay in a nice accommodation with a swimming pool.
Duration: 8 hours

Meals included:
• Breakfast
Accommodation included: Overnight stay in a luxury hotel 2 nights

Day 11: Hikingtrip to Punta de Jandia

Stop At: Morro del Jable, Morro del Jable, Pajara, Jandia Peninsula, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands
Today the last stage of our walk is on the program. A trip to the very southern tip of Fuerteventura: the lighthouse at “Punto de Jandia”. Still a lot on and off, which makes this trip quite tough. You can see the lighthouse from afar, which makes it look like you’re almost there, but appearances can be deceiving. The road always runs along the coast.

The only small village we encounter is called “Puertito”, literally translated “harbor”. It is no more than that, the tiny hamlet with barely 20 inhabitants is about one kilometer from the end point. After we have reached the end point with the group and have taken the necessary pictures, we return to the small village to relax in the modest restaurant.
