Itinerary

Day 1: CORDOBA (158km) – Duration 8 hours

Stop At: Jewish Quarter (Juderia), Cordoba Spain
We begin our journey with the most significant work of Islamic art in Andalusia, as we enter the Umayyad Caliphate by the terraces of Medinat Azahara. Arab chroniclers say that the Caliph wishing to see his works cross the centuries founded at the foot of the mountain Yebel al-arus, in the Sierra of Cordoba, a city filled with palaces and gardens which would be the seat of his court. He gave him the name of Zahara, one of his most beautiful wives. On the main door, he placed a statue in perpetual homage to his beautiful.
Work began in the year 325 AH (Christian year 936) and lasted 25 years. Victim of political neglect, the Medina Azahara was destroyed only 74 years later. Through its ruins, and thanks to the excavation and restoration work that began in 1910,
we can approach this moment of splendor of the Caliphate.
We will discover the authentic district of “Juderia”, contemporary with the Caliphate we will visit one of the typicall patios and houses of Cordoba. After lunch and free time, to end this day in the city that illuminated Europe in the Middle Ages, go to the Pardon Gate of the Mosque-Cathedral for a afternoon visit of the temple. It
was from here that a new style emerged, known today as the art of the Caliphate of Cordoba; a meeting between East and
West. The Mosque-Cathedral impresses with its light and sound games which immerse the visitor in a timeless world: the world of the spirituality of the peoples who wove the history of a building invaded by the mysteries of the soul of Cordoba.

Day 2: Granada (126km) – Duration 8 hours

Stop At: Granada, Granada, Province of Granada, Andalucia
We will visit the Alhambra Palace where we will discover the art of a besieged kingdom, with an unstable existence. At that
time, Al-Andalus did not need to shine luxury materials; the fine columns, the delicate and exuberant decorations in stucco
and the Arabic calligraphy which continues today to whisper us poems centuries old, are luxury in themselves.
In 1492, Boabdil , delivered Grenada to the Catholic Monarchs thus ending the history of the kingdom of Al-Andalus. But as
we will see during this trip, these seven centuries remain indelibly present in Andalusia.
