Plaza Nueva is probably the most central and busiest square in Granada (perhaps next to Plaza Bib-Rambla), with a cosmopolitan air and a special charm that together with its strategic historical and tourist enclave, being in the middle of the modern Gran Vía, calle Reyes Católicos, ancient Elvira street and the most famous of all: Carrera del Darro, makes it a key point in the city of Granada

One of the most famous streets in the city, it runs parallel to the river that gives it its name, derived from Dauro (Gold) and it is considered on several occasions by prestigious travel magazine one of the most beautiful streets in Spain and the world. On the opposite side of the river are numerous Muslim, Moorish and Christian palaces that are currently hotels, cafeterias or bars and museums.

Traditionally, it has been dated to the 11th century, that is, the zirí stage is part of a second construction stage of the zirí dynasty, corresponding to the reigns of Badis and Abd Allah (1038-1090). In it we can see the ritual of physical and spiritual cleansing. One of the best preserved public Arab baths on the peninsula. The Hammam al-Yawza or Bano del Nogal has been known since the late 19th century with the diminutive of Bañuelo for being smaller than the Alhambra’s royal baths.

The so-called Moorish House on Calle Horno de Oro is actually a small Nasrid house on one level, to which a second floor was added in the 16th century. It is located in the Horno del Oro alley, in the Axares neighborhood, a street that goes down from San Juan de los Reyes to Paseo de los Tristes.

It is the granadino viewpoint par excellence. No one passing through Granada can miss a glimpse of the entire city perspective, the Alhambra in the background and behind Sierra Nevada. Bill Clinton himself expressed in one of his visits that it was the most beautiful sunset in the world and this is recorded in a plaza in that plaza. Both the afternoon and the night are very lively and fun in all the terraces and restaurants in this area of Albacin

The Paseo de los Tristes, whose official name is Paseo del Padre Manjón, is known by this name because it was the place where funeral processions passed on their way to the cemetery. To the left of the Paseo de los Tristes, in front of the Alhambra, was the neighborhood of Los Axares, which means “of health and delight”, which they also called the Hospital of Africa, for its beauty and the temperance of its climate. You will find a lot of movement and bars in this square, which is always very lively and has magnificent views.

It is the most emblematic and typical square of the Albaicin from La Puerta de las Pesas, Puerta Nueva, or Arco de las pesas located at one of the entrances to the current Plaza Larga, it was also called del Ensanche (Bab Al Ziyada). It is one of the first corner doors of Hispanic-Muslim architecture and was one of the access points to the Zirí wall, which separated the Albaicín from the Alcazaba Qadima (Vieja) neighborhood. All the idiosyncrasy of the people of Albaicin can be found in this square

The Dar al-Horra palace “House of the honest”, located in the Alcazaba Cadima, was part of the great palace of the zirí king Badis, although archeology has not yet managed to provide convincing data to confirm it. It was named after having been the official residence of Aixa la-Horra, wife of Muley Hacén and mother of the last emir from Granada, Boabdil
