Day 2: BARCELONA (HIGHLIGHTS TOUR)

Pass By: Barcelona, Barcelona, Catalonia
Wake up to breakfast at the hotel before heading out to start your tour of Barcelona. Begin with a guided walking tour through the small and narrow streets of the Gothic Quarter, the oldest part of the city. Here you’ll see Las Ramblas, the Cathedral and the Old Jewish Quarter, among other interesting places. You will have some free time to visit the Cathedral at your own pace. Later, hop onto a bus for a panoramic tour of the city. We will pass through the elegant Passeig de Gràcia street, where you can admire two of Gaudí’s most important buildings (Casa Batlló and Casa Milà ‘la Pedrera’), the Arc de Triomf, the Olympic Village and the Olympic Port. Later, drive up to Montjuïc Mountain, the main setting of the 1992 Olympic Games. See the Olympic stadium from the bus and later enjoy the panoramic views of the city by riding the aerial tramway (subject to the weather conditions). Then it’s time to visit Montjuïc Castle. Its origins date back to 1640, making it the oldest fortress in the city. Over the centuries it has been a watchtower, a dungeon and an execution centre. Today, it is an incomparable viewpoint offering a 360º panoramic picture of Barcelona. Continue the route in the bus back to the city centre driving through Plaza Espanya, where we will admire the magical fountains, the twin venetian towers, the MNAC art gallery and the Las Arenas shopping centre, which is in a former bullring. In the end you’ll make it to Plaza Catalunya, where we’ll end the tour in front of the Hard Rock Café. You can make your own way back to your hotel or stay out to enjoy Barcelona. Day 3: BARCELONA (MONTSERRAT MORNING TOUR)

Pass By: Barcelona, Barcelona, Catalonia
After breakfast in the hotel, head for the meeting point Carrer de Balmes, 5, Barcelona at 9:00 to go on your trip to Montserrat, a rocky mountain 50 km to the southwest of Barcelona. It is considered the most important mountain of Catalonia, rising to a majestic 1,236 metres. Over the centuries, the wind and rain shaped the mountain into strange and varied forms. Visit the Royal Basilica of Montserrat, which hosts the famous 12th-century Romanesque carving of the Moreneta (‘Black Madonna’). The Benedict sanctuary of Montserrat was founded in 1025 and provides a mystical backdrop for the Virgin of Montserrat, the patron saint of Catalonia, who is enshrined in the monastery’s Royal Basilica. The little monastery received many pilgrims and visitors who spread stories of the miracles and wonders performed by the Virgin. Today, Montserrat has been modernised to keep attending to the needs of the pilgrims, one thousand years after it was originally founded. Enjoy some free time to roam freely through the audio-visual exhibition on the history and creation of Montserrat and taste some typical liqueurs of Montserrat. The Escolania of Montserrat is one of the oldest boys’ choirs in Europe, dating back to the 14th century. If you’re lucky, you might get to hear the children sing in the monastery! Return to Barcelona in the afternoon and spend the rest of the day enjoying the city at leisure. Overnight in Barcelona on a bed-and-breakfast basis.
