Bilbao to San Sebastian: Basque Country Private Sightseeing Tour

Bilbao Trip Overview

The greatest advantage to my tours: flexibility.

I may propose or start the day with an itinerary in mind, but the tour will evolve according to your wishes.

My greatest asset: I have one foot firmly set in 2 countries/cultures:

I speak perfect American English, as I was born and raised in the US, yet my father is French, and my wife (and in-laws) are all French.

Having a unique point of view due to my international education and experiences, and a profound understanding of both French and American cultures, I appreciate and respect what English-speaking tourists are looking for in France – and can share this with you!

With over 28 years’ experience driving in France, I provide safe transport, historical commentary & personal anecdotes about life in France as an American expatriate.

My objective: to help you maximize your time spent here in France – so that you comfortably enjoy all the beauty and history & return home filled with spectacular memories of a marvelous adventure.

Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, Bermeo Spain

This island off the Northern Basque coast of Spain is spectacular. The hundreds of stairs you must climb to reach the top were featured in the Game of Thrones series.

I usually just stop at the scenic overlook to take in the view and snap a few photos – if you want to hike up to the top of the island and ring the bell you should count on spending 1.5 -2 hours doing this. There is no admission fee (as of summer 2o18) but they do require reservations to hike the trail.

Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: Puerto Viejo Bermeo, Nardiz Tar Benanzio Kaia, 48370 Bermeo Spain

Bermeo is the most important fishing port in the Basque Country. You mat enjoy a walk along the impressive fortified Sea wall, or have a cafe in the port overlooking the sailboats in the harbor. The Basque architecture here is enchanting.

Duration: 30 minutes

This seaside town is home to a famous surfing wave, we’ll take a short walk around the center of town.

On the drive back to Bilbao from San Sebastian we’ll drive along the marvelous scenic coastal route “Corniche Basque”. This is where the Pyrenees mountains majestically fall into the Atlantic Ocean. We’ll drive through Zarautz to Zumaia before taking the Autovia back to Bilbao.
