Whether you’re a Game of Thrones fan or not, there is plenty to appreciate in the storybook looking town. Girona’s wealth in medieval times produced many fine Romanesque and Gothic buildings that have survived repeated attacks, while a Jewish community flourished here.
We will begin our round-trip from your hotel or private residence in Barcelona. You will be picked up by our driver and on a comfortable car will bring you to the old city of Girona. Here you can walk and stroll around the ‘Old Quarter’ with its stunning cathedral and the best preserved Jewish Quarters in the world.
Our driver as your tour-leader will tell you how to navigate the Girona city, so that you do not miss anything.
After this atmospheric journey, the driver will chauffeur you in relax to one of the best wineries In the foothills of the Pyrenees. You will have a tour of the estate, see how the grape is growing, and visit the cellars, while the owner explains you all about the wine making process and the history of this family run winery. Then you will sit on a beautiful terrace with an amazing panoramic view and have traditional delicious picnic of locally produced cheeses, jamon, home-made sausages, fresh bread, olives and home-made olive oil. A professional sommelier will offer you 3 or more glasses of Catalan Emporda DO red, rose and white wines.
The price of the winery visits starts from 15 euros (3 types of wine). For an additional fee, you can include a picnic and extend the wine tasting.
After 1,5-2 hours winery experience we will go to our next stop in the fishman town with oyster growing farms.
OYSTER FARM
Here you can come across the oyster farmers who grow oysters, mussels, clams, and even king prawns. On this land, nature has arranged itself so that the most favorable conditions for the growth of oysters were created: a narrow strip of the beach separates the Mediterranean Sea from the freshwater lake. It is this composition of water – a combination of fresh and sea water – that affect the quality of oyster meat. However, on this farm, oysters do not multiply, they are brought here when small from Kankal. In any case, the prices for oysters here at the local farm are among the lowest in France.
The farm has its own trading infrastructure – here you can buy oysters. The price for 1 kg is about 2-3 euro, and half a dozen open oysters on ice with wine is 4.50 euros.
In connection with its own production of oysters, in Leucate a huge number of restaurants specialize in seafood.
At the agreed time, your driver will pick you up and take you back to your hotel in Barcelona.
