Pablo Picasso spent his youth in Barcelona. This is the city where he loved to return. The museum, opened by Picasso’s close friend, Jaime Sabartes, first exhibited the personal collection of the creator. After the death of Sabartes, Picasso himself donated to the museum around 900 works.
Nowadays, the collection of the museum consists of 4000 exhibits, that relate mostly to the early years of the artist. Among the later works, the series “Meninas” stands out, consisting of 59 paintings, variations based on the famous “Meninas” created by Velazquez.
